Identity Theft Protection and Recovery Tools
Who’s
Using Your Identity?
Nowadays, that’s a good question to ask. Identity
theft is a fast growing financial crime against consumers. An identity
thief uses your personal information to get new credit cards, take out
loans and bounce checks from empty checking accounts.
What Identity Theft Can Cost.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has been keeping
track of complaints and the costs of identity theft. A 2003 survey reveals
that consumer victims reported about $5 billion in out-of-pocket expenses.
Consumers are not responsible for all fraudulent charges,
but have reported* significant trouble trying to fix other problems, such
as loan denials, credit line rejections and harassment by debt collection
agencies.
How To Protect Your Good Name.
For just $5.95 per month, the IdentityShield Protection
Program is a membership program that provides tools to help with the messy
process of recovering from identity theft. Membership provides:
Security. Computer firewall software helps to keep your
home computer safe from Internet hackers.
Convenience. Personal data software helps to keep personal information
organized in one place and credit card registration centralizes your credit
card information so you can cancel them fast.
A Helping Hand. A victim counseling hotline walks you through the process
and an assistance kit gives you letter templates used to reclaim your
identity.
Financial Assistance. Up to $10,000 in reimbursement benefits for eligible
expenses.
Identity theft is a growing crime of opportunity. Government
agencies and industry have started taking steps to prevent the crime and
help consumers. But they can’t stop every theft – enroll today
and have the added identity theft protection with IdentityShield.
If you are not a Dominion customer, that's okay. You
can still enroll in the IdentityShield Protection Program -- and pay annually
with your credit card.
