Wildwood is a city in Cape May County, New Jersey, US. 2000 Census estimated that Wildwood city population was 5,436.
The City of Wildwood was incorporated in 1912 and is situated on a barrier island comprised of five separate municipalities consisting of Wildwood, North Wildwood, West Wildwood, Wildwood Crest and Diamond Beach which is governed by Lower Township.
Wildwood is also a colloquial term referring to the three communities with Wildwood comprising part of the town name, spedifically the Borough of Wildwood Crest, City of Wildwood, and the Borough of North Wildwood. Collectively, these communities are known as "The Wildwoods."
Wildwood is a resort city that is very popular with vacationers and tourists from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and Delaware during the summer months. Its most notable features are its beach and 2.5-mile boardwalk, home to the Morey's Piers amusement complex and Raging Waters, a 2-location waterpark complex owned by Morey's Piers. Its famous doo wop-style motels and hotels have been designated as endangered historical places by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, along with places like the only remaining staircase left of the rubble at the World Trade Center.
During the off season Wildwood has a population over 5,400 according to the 2000 census, but the number of people visiting increases that number to approximately 250,000 or more during peak vacation time.
In the off season Wildwood is just like any small town in New Jersey. From the Spring until late Fall our town wakes up and excitement abounds. Vacationers traveling to Wildwood for a day, week, or for the summer start feeling the exhilaration as they start on the final leg of their journey. When they enter one of the two main roads entering the barrier islands, the smell of salt air welcomes them back with childhood memories of their youth.

The Wildwood Public School District serves students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Schools in the district are Glenwood Elementary School (K-5), Wildwood Middle School (6-8) and Wildwood High School [1] (9-12). Students from West Wildwood attend the district's schools as part of a sending / receiving relationship.
