North Wildwood New Jersey


North Wildwood is a city located on the Jersey Shore in Cape May County, New Jersey, United States. 4,935 residents were counted during the US 2000 Census. North Wildwood is home to the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse.

The City of North Wildwood covers an area 1.8 square miles along the southern New Jersey Coast on land identified as "Five Mile Beach". It shares this "beach" with the City of Wildwood, the Boroughs of West Wildwood and Wildwood Crest, and a portion of Lower Township. The City is located in Cape May County, approximately 30 miles south of Atlantic City and ten miles north of Cape May City.

North Wildwood was incorporated in 1917 as a city from what had previously been known as Anglesea Borough and North Wildwood Borough.

Geography

North Wildwood borders Stone Harbor Borough, Wildwood City, West Wildwood Borough, Middle Township, and the Atlantic Ocean.

Tourism and Events

Along with the many events hosted here, there are a number of attractions, both historical and recreational, that deserve a look from Hereford Lighthouse, with its award winning gardens and the beautiful white sand beaches, to the crisp, clean ocean, and the fabulous restaurants, to the boardwalk with its vast possibilities for entertainment and the nightclubs which extend those possibilities to the wee hours. North Wildwood has something to offer everyone!


Demographics

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 4,935 people, 2,309 households, and 1,394 families residing in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 96.62% White, 0.81% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.57% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.77% from other races, and 1.13% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.95% of the population.

Males had a median income of $32,986 versus $22,064 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,656. About 9.9% of families and 11.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.1% of those under age 18 and 7.5% of those age 65 or over.

In the city the population was spread out with 17.2% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 23.6% from 25 to 44, 29.5% from 45 to 64, and 23.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 47 years. For every 100 females there were 92.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.9 males.

There were 2,309 households out of which 18.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.3% were married couples living together, 11.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.6% were non-families. 34.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.14 and the average family size was 2.73.
